1068- 1818/5 Bust 25C NGC MS65
<Our item number 114406>1818/5 Capped Bust Quarter Dollar. NGC graded MS-65 B-1. Light blue and green toning around the edges. If you are the kind of collector who looks on Fate, not as a blind dispenser at random of the gifts good and bad, but rather as a benevolent being with a pleasing bias for the hard-working student of numismatics, then mark this lot as an important chance for securing a really beautiful Gem quality example of this Red Book overdate. It is worth a strong premium and that is for sure! The 1818 stands out since none were struck after 1815, and no quarters left the mint dated 1816 or 1817. Today's collectors assume the obvious in a day when the government struck coins "to order" in a free-coinage regime: silver depositors at the Mint opted for the more trade-worthy fifty-cent piece to the quarter dollar. Nicely balanced toning over both sides, this frosty MS65 is ideally preserved. For that matter, it would command an even higher number were it not for a few light hairli nes in places. An earlier die state, there is no sign of what would become a bold die crack from the rim through the second T in STATES and on to the eagle's beak. There is, however, light die clashing evident around the eagle from a faint outline of the Liberty bust when the two dies came together without an intervening planchet. Worthy of the finest collection of large size bust quarter dollars. Pop 8; 2 finer in 66 (PCGS # 5322).
Estimated Value $15,000-16,000.

Our item number 114406
<IMAGES>

</IMAGES>
