10 US SWORDS & SCABBARDS.
1) M1852 NAVAL OFFICER. Overall length: 35 1/2". Blade length: 29". This sword belonged to George Fox Braley who enlisted as a Private in October of 1861 & served in the Massachusetts Cavalry. He was discharged for disability in June of 1862 in New Orleans. He was commissioned into the US Navy as an ensign on October 26, 1864 & was discharged on October 1, 1866. He served on the USS Cornubia & the USS Pampero. Blade is etched over 4/5 of its length w/ various nautical & patriotic motifs including a panel that reads, “George Fox Braley 1864 - - 1866”. Gilded brass hilt. Wire wrapped sharkskin grip. Gilded brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light to medium gray patina. The lower edge of blade shows evidence of sharpening to mitigate nicks. Hilt retains nearly all of its original gilded finish. Grip shows very light wear. Scabbard mounts show only traces of original gilding. Leather is very weak, flexed & flaked. There are several seam openings also. 2) MARINE MAMELUKE. Overall length: 39 1/2". Blade length: 32". A WWII era marine sword w/ engraving over 2/3 of the blade that includes a panel w/ the name, “Louis J. Caminiti”. Blade marked near the ricasso, “HILBORN HAMBURGER INC” & “WILKINSON SWORD CO LONDON”. Blade is further stamped on the spine, “MADE IN ENGLAND” & “70084”. Gilded brass hilt. Mameluke style grips w/ sword knot. Gilted brass mounted plated scabbard. Sword includes a leather carrying case stamped in gold, “L.J.C. / U.S.M.C.”. CONDITION: blade shows original factory polish. Hilt shows some wear w/ traces of gilding. Grips are a bit dark. Knot is somewhat tattered. Scabbard shows light overall wear w/ some oxidation. Leather carrying case is very tattered w/ taped repairs. 3) M1913 PATTON SCABBARD. Overall length: 36". Iron throat. Wooden body. CONDITION: throat has a dark patina. Canvas cover is missing. No tip. Wood is damaged. 4) MILITIA SWORD. Overall length: 34 1/2". Blade length: 27 3/4". Plain blade marked at the ricasso, “GERMANY”. Gilded brass crossguard, shield languets & knight’s head pommel. Reeded ivory grip. Gilded brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray patina. Hilt shows light wear. Scabbard shows moderate wear but remains solid. (02-14375(4)/BF). 5) M1812/13 STARR SABER. Overall length: 42". Blade length: 37". Single fuller blade stamped at the ricasso, “N ST_ _ _”. Iron hilt. Leather covered grip. Iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray cleaned finish w/ oxidation particularly near the ricasso. Hilt has a dark oxidized patina. Leather grip is approx. 80%. Scabbard has been painted black sometime in its life. The scabbard has a few dents & is missing its throat. 6) M1832 ARTILLERY. Overall length: 24 1/2". Blade length: 18 1/2". This sword does not conform to generally accepted US criteria & may be of Confederate mfg. Unmarked blade has 2 short & 1 long fuller. Solid brass hilt w/ no grip rivets. An eagle is impressed in both sides of the pommel. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a dark patina & tip has been rounded. Hilt has a deep mustard patina. 7) CHILD’S SWORD. Overall length: 23 1/2". Blade length: 19 1/2". Blade is etched over 3/4 of its length w/ various foliate & military motifs including a US eagle & the name “Charles Ladd” in a panel. Brass hilt. Wire wrapped leather grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a dark gray patina. Hilt is quite loose. Grip leather is nearly gone. Wire is loose. Wooden core is about 75%. 8) SABER BAYONET. Overall length: 25 3/8". Blade length: 20". Single fuller blade stamped, “_ S” at the ricasso. Solid brass hilt w/ the federal inspector’s stamp “B.H.” on the flat & a lg. “45”. Brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: bayonet shows moderate wear. Scabbard shows heavy wear but is complete. 9) M1816 SOCKET BAYONET. Overall length: 21 1/4". Blade length: 15 3/4". Bayonet stamped “US”. Leather scabbard w/ brass tip. CONDITION: light to moderate wear overall. 10) SCABBARDS. A sm. group of 5 partial sword or bayonet leather scabbards some w/ partial mounts or tips. CONDITION: very heavy wear. Usable for parts only. (02-14395/BF). $900-1,400.
