*** ITEM HAS NO FAULTS*** 1978 Capex Philatelic Exhibition cards (complete set of 3) United States FDC set VERY SCARCE!Description: Set of the 3 printers souvenir sheets (Philatelic Exhibition cards) issued for the 1978 CAPEX stamp show, each one "first day cancelled" with the appropriate USA stamps issued in conjunction with the exhibition. A very scarce group as only 20 sets were prepared!THE CARDS THEMSELVES:Card 1: "Prepared by Ashton-Potter Limited, to demonstrate the colour progression in the production of postage stamps by offset lithography."Card 2: "The Cartier Quadricentenary Stamp / Issued July 1st 1934" with "Copy of original steel engraved stamp", "Original drawing" and "Engraving made in 1885." Lower left inscription reads "Designed, engraved and printed by British American Bank Note, Ottawa."Card 3: "Canadian Bank Note Company, Limited" with illustrations of "20 Cents Special Delivery / Date of issue: June 1st, 1935" and an engraving below with inscription "The engraved vignette symbolic of progress was hand cut in steel in 1926. It was re-engraved in 1935 in reduced size to form part of the 20 cent special delivery stamps printed for the Canada Post by the Canadian Bank Note Company Limited." At bottom "Limited Edition" with CAPEX 78 insignia.The set you're bidding on consists of 3 cards (matched set #07373), each cancelled with United States first day cancel for the 13c Capex (US) souvenir sheet of 8 (June 10, 1978). Each card bears either 2 or 4 singles from the souvenir sheet. Note the unusual "double cancel" on one of the sheets (probably unique like this.) ONLY 20 OF THESE SETS WERE MADE! ABOUT THESE "FIRST DAY" SOUVENIRS: Only a handful of these specially prepared souvenir cards were cancelled during the show. They were offered shortly after the exhibition closed through Linn's Stamp News for $280. The ad states "Prices will TRIPLE" (and no, I'm not holding my breath waiting for that to happen...) A scan of the actual advertisement is included with the other pictures.
