Like Graves, Saint-Émilion has its own wine classification, which is updated about every ten years, the last time in 2012. Château Cheval Blanc, perhaps the most famous wine estate in Saint-Émilion, is one of only four Premier Grand Cru Classé A.

Château Cheval Blanc

Château Cheval Blanc is one of the most famous wine estates in the world. It is located in the Saint-Émilion appellation in Bordeaux. The estate was owned by the Laussac-Fourcaud family for over 150 years, until it was bought by the Arnault and Frère families for 131 million euros in 1998. The soil of Cheval Blanc is very different from that of other estates in Saint-Émilion, resulting in unique wines that have been extremely popular for over a century. The wines of Château Cheval Blanc have been mentioned and appeared in countless films and television shows, including James Bond and Mad Men.

Cheval Blanc has a vineyard area of 37 hectares, with 58 % Cabernet Franc and 42 % Merlot. The average production per year of the grand vin is 6,000 cases. The estate also produces around 2,500 cases per year of their second wine, Le Petit Cheval.
