This lot comprises one bottle of 1945 vintage Château La Mission Haut-Brion from the Pessac-Léognan appellation in Bordeaux.

The appellation Pessac-Léognan is part of the Graves wine region, south of the city of Bordeaux. Vines thrive on the Ice Age gravel terraces, producing first-class mineral red wines made up of Cabernet Sauvignon and some Merlot and Cabernet franc. Aside from Château Haut-Brion, the region’s iconic Premier cru classé, Pape-Clément and Smith Haut-Lafite are the leading wine growers of the region. The appellation is also the home of intense, powerful dry white wines. Cuvées made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon are aromatic and structurally characterized by Sauvignon Blanc.

1945 is a legendary vintage and one of the best ever in Bordeaux. The ideal weather conditions resulten in extremely tannic wines that matured over decades. Many wines from this year are still great to drink today, but this is one of the vintage’s best. To drink this rare and fine wine is a sublime experience!

The 1945 vintage Mission Haut-Brion was rated 94 points by Robert Parker in 1994. It received a score of 96 points in a 1995 issue of Wine Spectator. Swiss Bordeaux expert René Gabriel rated the wine 20 out of 20 points in 2012.
