c1910-Lot of 5 framed, vibrantly colored tobacco labels of the company that was located in Richmond, VA. All prints are double matted and professionally framed in 1” wooden frames—the four T.C. Williams domestic prints are matching and the fifth is from Alex.r Cameron & Co. of Richmond (a subsidiary). It has a matching frame but different color mat. Each print measures 7" x 14” and the overall size is 11.5" x 19.” The five pictures are: The Nosegay (a young woman with a basket of flowers on her shoulder); The Diadem of Old Virginia (a woman with a jeweled tiara); Lucky Hit (a young woman with a quiver of arrows and a dead bird); Juno (a Roman goddess); and Venus, a representation of that goddess. The last one is from the Alex.r Cameron & Co. A. Hoen & Co. of Richmond was the lithographer for all. The T.C. Williams Co. dates to the 1850s when it was first listed in city directories as a tobacco manufacturer. The company incorporated in 1889 and by 1903 had developed into one of the largest tobacco exporters in the US. When the British-American Tobacco Co. bought out T.C. Williams in 1903, it ended a formidable rivalry between the two companies. The name T.C. Williams persisted, as the company still operated under that name for at least the next year. Then in 1904 the Continental Tobacco Co. purchased the domestic business and that eventually became the American Tobacco Company. All are ready to hang. HKA#64790
