NO RESERVE 1979 FERRARI PININFARINA 400
1979 Ferrari Pininfarina 400 Coupe 49,039 miles, current owner 24 years.

From 1975 on, Ferrari ceased to offer the famed 12 cylinder coach built cars officially in North America. Limited production continued for the European market, and it was possible for an individual to import such a grand touring car into the USA, providing that it was brought into US compliance by a suitable engineering firm. This car was imported into Oregon and certified there. When it subsequently met the used car regulations for Canada, it was imported to Alberta by the seller, in early 2000.

The 400 features the ultimate development of the Colombo designed 12 cylinder engine (400cc.X12=4800cc.), with six side-draught Weber carburettors and twin overhead camshafts producing 340 horsepower at 6,000 RPM, driven by internal chains, so as not to require the frequent and expensive cam belt changes that other Ferrari models are notorious for. This was mated to the suitably modified TH400 transmission to give a four place executive transport reputedly capable of 155 MPH top speed for the Autostrada. Enzo Ferrari himself was regularly chauffeured in this model.

When purchased, this car had a Blue Scurro exterior, and had some damage to the front wiring harness. A new wiring harness was fitted, the engine removed for detailing, and a bare metal respray completed in Ferrari Argento (silver), code 101C. There is no evidence of corrosion or collision damage on the car, all panels are stamped with the factory number “312”. Due to the unavailability of the metric Michelin tires, a previous owner fitted BBS three piece 16” wheels.

The correct original spare remains. The engine was previously reconditioned to a high standard, found to contain J&E pistons, all stainless steel valves and reground camshafts. Twin electronic ignitions have since been installed, without modification to the original twin-point distributors, all being 100% reversible should that be desired. This car features independent front and rear air conditioning, all hoses were replaced with correct Parker hoses for 134a refrigerant, and conversion completed. The Koni auto-levelling suspension is in place and working correctly. The car features a period installed Alpine custom stereo, with multiple trunk-mounted amplifiers. An aftermarket remote locking control is also installed. The exhaust headers have been ceramic coated, and the original Ansa exhaust remains in good condition. Two new modern ATO fuse boxes replace the original unreliable Bosch ceramic ones.

The car comes complete with a replacement group of original owner’s manuals, a replacement tool kit, an original factory brochure, and a photocopy service manual. Some spares, including oil filters, fuel filters and ignition modules are included, as well as the original distributor plates. A voucher for a full tank of fuel is also included.
