The lot features an original photograph cabinet card from R. Dawes of Bozeman, Montana in the 19th Century. This cabinet boudoir card shows an original photograph of two Montana cowboys both wearing full western getup with leather chaps, cowboy hats, scarves, and leather cuffs both holding bull whip riding quirts. At the two cowboy ranchers feet are excellent early 1800’s leather tooled saddles with headstalls, horsehair lariats, saddle bags and other gear. The piece is marked on the back by the R. Dawes Artistic Photography company of Bozeman, Montana. This piece has been professionally framed with Premium Clear Tru Vue glass on an acid free backing. The photograph so clearly represents the Bozeman, Montana Territory Vigilante Days of the Old West with two hard stone faced cowboys showing of their saddlery pieces. The cabinet card was appraised by Sundog for over $1,000 and still holds their original tag. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery. Cabinet card measures 5.25”x6.5”. Frame is 14.5”x11.75”.
