17LY-5 MAUSER 98German Model 98 bolt action rifle, 8mm caliber, Serial #1944L. The rifle is in very good overall condition with a 24” barrel with a hooded ramped blade front and military tangent style rear sights. The barrel andreceiver retain a significant amount of their military finish with the remainder going to a grey patina. The rifle retains the bayonet lug, cleaning rod and sling swivels. The rifle is dated 1939 on the front ring withGerman proofs, 243 code and Nazi markings. The visible serial numbers are all matching, including the barrel band. The smooth wood stock is in good condition showing moderate use with two light Nazi markings on the right side of the butt stock. The butt ends with a smooth steel butt plate. The bore is about fair, the action is crisp and markings are sharp on this early, WW II Mauser. The lot includes a leather military style sling.Est.: $400-$800.
