*S/N 6165, .30 caliber, Remington Woodmaster Model 81 semi-auto rifle. Rare Texas Ranger item carried and used by well-known and famous Texas Ranger Senior Captain Clint Peoples. The rifle is nickeled finish and appears to be original factory configuration with 22? shrouded barrel, standard open sights, and uncheckered wood with semi-beavertail forearm and semi-pistol grip stock with a checkered steel buttplate. The grip cap area is branded “DPS”, for “Department of Public Safety” (Texas Rangers). See Captain Clint Peoples: Texas Rangers by James Day. In a book on Remington Models 8 & 81, there is a description of this marking.

Accompanied by a notarized letter from Capt. Peoples dated March 19, 1974, stating that he had carried this rifle “for an indefinite period of time while serving in the Texas Ranger service.” Also accompanied by Mr. Schreiner’s inventory card for this rifle. Additionally accompanied by a small Blackington shield-shaped badge with spread-winged eagle on top which bears the name of “C. Peoples” and it indicates he was the “Chief Deputy Constable / Montgomery County / State of Texas”. CONDITION: Fine. Overall rifle retains 93-95% original nickel-plating with minor handling & use nicks & scratches with light wear and some minor losses on the magazine guides. Wood is sound and retains most of an old refinish. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore. Badge is equally fine.

Capt Peoples is in the Guiness Book of World Records as having worn more different law enforcement badges during his law enforcement career than any other police officer. He was born and raised in Montgomery County, TX. Most of his badges are in the Texas Ranger Museum. This rifle & badge were purchased directly from Capt. Peoples through Charles Schreiner, III of the Y O Ranch, who had the world’s largest collection of Texas Ranger guns & badges, a personal friend of the original purchaser.
