The Godfather Part II Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) Suit
The Godfather Part II Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) Suit - Whole libraries could be filled with the books and articles written about the Godfather Saga of films. Especially "The Godfather Part II" (1974), which is considered to be one of the top ten greatest films of all time. Besides bringing back most of the original cast, director and co-writer Francis Ford Coppola brought in some of the most inspired and unusual casting in history. He used many of the great film directors and real high-level studio executives as Senators, Businessmen and Statesmen, and perhaps his most brilliant casting was legendary acting coach Lee Strasberg as powerful crime boss, Hyman Roth. Strasberg had only had two small parts in independent films in the early 1950's, and had never acting in a major film before, especially with a part of this magnitude. Of course he was best known for creating the "Actor's Studio" in New York which inspired literally hundreds of the world's greatest actors, including Marlon Brando, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Dustin Hoffman, and Al Pacino. That is why when we first see him in the film, the fact that he is playing his part with Pacino makes for true Hollywood gold. The scene is one of the many in this remarkable film that hangs with you forever, even though basically it is a simple piece of expository. Michael Corleone goes to Miami after he and his family are attacked at their fortress in Lake Tahoe. He blames his long time friend and confident Frank Pentageli and asks for Hyman's permission to have Pentageli killed. Although Hyman is one of the most powerful men in the world, if not the richest, he lives in a tiny modest one bedroom house in the "low-end" of Miami, and sits in a small dark room watching a football game, eating a tuna fish sandwich off a TV tray. The scene is spellbinding, haunting and magical. It has one of the most memorable lines in the film, when Michael asks Hyman if he has his permission to kill Pentageli, and Hyman, as he pops a potato chip into his mouth, casually says, as only Strasberg can: "He's small potatoes". It is as if he is chewing up and swallowing Pentageli himself! This is Al Pacino's actual hero screen worn suit from this amazing Miami sequence. It includes both his jacket and matching pants. Both the pants and the jacket have numerous official "WCC" (Western Costume Company) stamps inside (including the period marking of "1950" on both the coat and pants), as well as the original sewn-in Western Costume Co. Hollywood wardrobe label which has the production number #2703-1, Name: Al Pacino and Waist and Inseam measurements (Waist 32/ Inseam 29) type printed on them. The iconic outfit is in excellent condition. The official labels are sewn into the inside belt seam of the pants, and inside the wallet pocket of the jacket. They were original purchased from Christie's Auction House, and include both the original Christie tags, plus a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Breanna S. Livie, Vice President of Eastern Costume Company, as well as a Letter of Provenience handwritten by the consigner. From one of the most unforgettable scenes, from one of the most unforgettable motion pictures of all time, this well remembered screen used costume is a true rare Hollywood Collectable treasure.
