This is an example of a late war production K98 rifle made by J. P. Sauer and Sohns with one of the copies of a late war variant swept-back style sniper mount. These swept-back mounts were produced at the very end of WWII and were very limited before the war ended. These late war scope mounts were intended to be an easily produced, rigid and robust mount with a base system that could be easily mounted without special sized receivers or complicated soldering and mounting techniques on the standard K98 rifle that utilized the new ZF4 style of scope that was also a war expedient version of the traditional German sniper scopes. The standard style of swept-back mount has been noted on both Mauser and J.P. Sauer and Sohns K98 rifles. This rifle is equipped with a ZF4 extended eye relief sniper scope, which is marked "Gw ZF 4 dow (in white) triangle (in blue)" over "25751" on the left side. The receiver ring is marked with an "eagle/37" proof over "ce" over "44" on the top with the right side marked with single "eagle/280" and "eagle/37" proofs and the left side has a Nazi firing proof. The left rear of the barrel is marked with a Nazi firing proof and the serial number. The left receiver wall is marked "Mod. 98". Hooded ramp front and tangent rear sights with the rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters, stamped barrel bands and trigger guard, and machined floor plate. The laminated stock has a cupped buttplate and is marked with a large eagle/swastika on the right rear. Comes with a slotted cleaning rod and leather sling.
