The lot features an excellent original Blackfoot Native American Indian tipi backrest seat dating to the 19th Century. (Also referred to as Blackfeet and Tepee, Tipi, and Teepee). The piece is constructed of stripped willow which is banded together with a red shroud trade clothe edge and blue trade clothe sections. The top of the stand shows a red, blue and tan trade clothe section with an opening which allows the piece to be slid over the long hand carved stand. The stand, which is in a tripod pattern and shows four sections of geometric carved on bark designs, a truly artistic addition which are tied together with Indian tanned hide. The circa 1880-1890 piece is from Northwestern Montana at the Blackfeet Indian Reservation near Glacier National Park and Browning, Montana. Provenance: From a large American Indian collection in Great Falls, Montana. The piece functions and is shown setup in the photographs and appears to be complete. The wood stand spikes each measure __ inches in height and the seat area measures _ inches wide at the base.
