Seminary of Nicolet :

Founded in 1803, the Seminary of Nicolet owes its origin to a free parish school started two years previously by Louis-Marie Brassard, then the parish priest of Nicolet.
The seminary received its Royal Charter on December 10, 1821. Over 11, 240 students received a classical education there, until its transformation into the Quebec Police Institute in 1969.

The Corporation of the Seminary of Nicolet continued, however, its educational work by opening to the public its archives and library in the renovated building of the Grand Seminary, and, since the beginning of 1991, in the building of the Museum of Religions.

On August 20, 1991, the Archives received a certificate of approval from the Ministry of Culture; official recognition of the service of the Seminary’s private archives.

Rich with over 412 holdings and collections, comprising about 509 linear meters of manuscripts, dating back as far as 1658, the Archives conserves as well 2,560 maps and plans, and 82,300 photographs.

Facing the necessity of moving these large Archives into a smaller space, the Committee of the Seminary of Nicolet has made the difficult decision to part with certain of its coins, banknotes, tokens and medals.

We at MTM International wish to express our heartfelt thanks to the Committee of the Seminary of Nicolet for their confidence in consigning their treasures for this auction sale.
