Fine Art and Antiques Sale

Auction Details

A number of the lots in this sale are sold with the provenance of Warley Hall (also known as Warley Abbey), Birmingham and Berwick House, Shrewsbury.

Warley Hall, now demolished, was a distinguished c.1795 Gothic style mansion that stood south east of the Sandgate interchange. It was designed by Humphrey Repton and a 'Red Book' of the park still exists. By 1860 it had become the seat of James Watson who in 1876 also acquired Berwick House, Shrewsbury, a mansion with a nine-bay façade by the brothers Smith of Warwick. Watson commissioned extensive additions and alterations in the Italianate style and was supplied with up-to-date furnishings by, amongst others, Gillows of Lancaster.
