<p>Our 14th vintage poster auction in San Francisco presents a fine selection of 348 antique poster lots (400+ posters), including 64 Advertising posters, 31 posters related to Art, Opera and Cultural Events, and 110 Travel, Transportation and Sports posters. One auction segment is devoted to the poster art of famous Swiss designer Herbert Leupin. Other sections include International & World’s Fair, Modern Design, Military & Politics and Les Maitres de l’Affiche.

<p>Among the auction highlights are several rare Art Nouveau posters from France by such renowned artists as Cappiello, Cheret, Grasset, Mucha and Stephane. The sale includes Alphonse Mucha’s “Salon des Cent” (lot 117) from 1896. The Maitres selection includes works by Mucha (Gismonda – Sarah Bernhardt, lot 174 and Lorenzaccio, lot 175), Toulouse-Laurec (Divan Japonais, lot 176 and La Chaine Simpson, lot 185) and many lots by Jules Cheret. Other important items include Herbert Leupin’s famous “Coca Cola” music stand (lot 2), a “Chicago World’s Fair” poster from 1893 by Campbell (lot 43), Jules Cheret’s “Pippermint” (lot 51) and “Quinquina Dubonnet” (lot 76), Louis Rhead’s “Quartier Latin” (lot 94), Emile Bertrand’s opera piece for “Cendrillon” from 1899 (lot 129) Jon Atherton’s “Hawaii by Clipper” poster for Pan Am (lot 298), Anton’s 4-sheet poster for the ships “St. Louis and Milwaukee” (lot 347) and several works by Ludwig Hohlwein.
