Auction Details
Jerry Taylor’s lifetime collection of antique John Deere tractors. Jerry King Taylor was born in 1939 and raised in the small ranching and farming community of Coleman in central west Texas. From a tender age he spent time on his grandfather’s cotton farm driving, operating and learning about John Deere 2 cylinder tractors. His grandfather was partial to the John Deere G and operated several on his farm and it was these early tractors that Jerry fell in love with.
In his adult life Jerry managed some of the state’s largest and most successful farms and ranches. In the early 1990’s he purchased his first antique tractor. It was a JD 70. He soon added to his collection focusing on the G model. He and his wife, Ruth Ann, travelled the state and country to purchase tractors, sharing stories and making friends along the way. Probably the greatest joy he had was sharing his collection with his grandchildren. His grandsons acquired a wealth of knowledge from him about these remarkable machines. Untold hours were spent in the shop in the company of his friends and family surrounded by his prized collection.
Jerry passed away in 2020 at the age of 80. During his lifetime he saw amazing advancements in the technology used in farm tractors and implements and he utilized those advancements on a large scale. But the John Deere 2 Cylinder was always in his heart as a reminder of those early years on the family farm. Three Model G’s led his funeral procession driven by his grandsons.
The family is proud to offer this collection to the public in hopes that these machines that tell a story of a lifestyle of the past will go to those who will appreciate and enjoy them as Jerry and his family did.
