World War II U.S. Inland M1A1 Paratrooper Carbine

This is an excellent example of a U.S. M1A1 Paratrooper Carbine with folding wire stock manufactured by the Inland Manufacturing Division of General Motors c. 1943. Inland manufactured approximately 140,000 M1A1 carbines during WWII. The M1A1 carbines were specifically designed for airborne operations. The light, compact, M1A1 carbines were popular during WWII and have remained the most desirable variation of the highly collectable .30 Carbine. The carbine serial number is correct for a "first run" M1A1 carbine. The carbine has the original 'L-Type' rear sight and 'Type I' barrel band. The walnut folding is original and is stamped "OI" inside the forearm. The buttplate has the correct casting marks, leather cheek-piece and rivets. The stock has the later 'operating rod cut' modification. The bottom of the pistol grip is stamped "SA" which indicates that the stock is a post-WWII replacement. The receiver heel is marked "INLAND DIV/515044" and the barrel is stamped "INLAND MFG. DIV./GENERAL MOTORS/6-43." Most of the components have the correct Inland codes. The trigger housing is Inland with early Type I safety and long face serrated magazine catch and has the mid-1944 lube hole. The hand guard has a "Q-RMC" manufacturer's code.

Excellent. The carbine retains 90% of the original finish. The flat top bolt has 85% of the original blue finish and the "S" marked rear sight has nearly all of the niter blue on the spring. The walnut stock and hand guard are both in excellent condition with minimal wear. The leather cheek-piece and brass rivets have a nice looking, aged, patina. This is a good looking example of a hard-to-find Inland M1A1 Airborne Carbine.
