Offered in this lot is a Winchester Model 1892 full Octagon repeating rifle, chambered in .25-20 Winchester Center Fire (WCF). The rifle is marked serial number: 996977, attributing this firearms manufacture to 1929, meaning this is one of the very last of the great Browning designed Model 1892 rifles, due to the fact that in 1924, this classic model was replaced by the Model 53, and later by the Model 65. Because of the Great Depression and Stock Market crash of 1929, production of the Model 1892 was down to a few hundred examples per year, most of which were carbines. This example showcases a 24" full octagon, blue'd barrel, a walnut fore-grip, and butt-stock, with a steel crescent butt-plate, a correct adjustable upper-tang rear sight, with a blade/bead front sight. The rear dovetail sight has been correctly fitted with a filler blank. The rifle is marked with the correct "late style" roll-stamp markings, reading; "-Model 92- Winchester -Trade Mark- 25-20 W.C.F-" on the left side of the barrel, near the receiver, and "Made in U.S.A. Winchester Repeating Arms Co. - New Haven, CONN." on the opposite side of the barrel. The bottom of the receiver is marked with the serial number "996977", and is additionally marked to the right of the action with "26". Overall, this firearm shows very good, investment grade condition - The bore is bright and sharp, screw heads show unmarred condition, action is tight, wood to metal contact is solid. The late Model 1892's utilized a different blueing process, and retained their finish much better than earlier examples, this rifle is no acception - The butt-plate, fore-end cap, receiver, and barrel all show good finish, with minimal wear to the sharp edges of the barrel, and very minor scattered patina forming the gun shows 85%+ finish. This is a Curio and Relic firearm, and requires FFL Transfer, or NICS background check. Serial Number: 996977.
