This is an antique Serial Number Winchester 1894 Saddle Ring Carbine in .30 WCF (.30-30) caliber, serial number 136918, made in 1898. The .30 WCF (Winchester Center Fire) caliber was introduced to the shooting public in 1895 as the first smokeless powder sporting cartridge. Only the first few years of production qualify as Pre-1899 Antiques and not subject to licensing requirements for shipping and transfer. This is the classic, early 1894 Carbine that was popular with the Klondike gold seekers, Texas Rangers, cowboys, ranchers, big game hunters and Mexican Revolutionaries. One of the best of the Jonathan Browning designs, the Model 1894 is still respected and used today. This fine 120 year old example still retains good naturally aged and uncleaned blue on the barrel and magazine tube. It retains the original carbine front sight and sports a special folding leaf “express’ rear barrel sight. The receiver has naturally aged to an attractive plum/brown patina that still retains some blue in the more protected areas and on the loading gate. This carbine has a tight action and lock-up with strong springs and excellent screw heads. The butt stock and forearm show normal handling, but are free of cracks or chips and display the very important tight wood to metal fit. The barrel shows correct, clear Winchester address markings and patent dates and displays a fine bore. The upper tang also has the correct “MODEL 1894” over “Winchester” and very early style August 21, 1894 patent markings. An iconic extremely desirable antique serial number saddle ring carbine from the turbulent days of the latter part of the 19th century. The carbine qualifies as an Antique Long Gun, and does NOT require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check. Serial Number: 136918.
