American businessman (1881–1956) who founded the multibillion-dollar aircraft manufacturing company that still bears his name. Exceptionally rare partly-printed DS, signed twice, “W. E. Boeing,” one page, 10.25 x 8.25, March 25, 1929. Stock certificate, number 9, issued to Boeing for 989 shares of the Miller Logging Company, signed at the conclusion by Boeing as the company's president, and also endorsed by him on the reverse. In fine condition, with red ink cancellation notations affecting the signature on the front. While today's airliners are made of aluminum, titanium, and other exotic materials, in the early days of Boeing Airplane the frames were made of wood, explaining Boeing's connection to a lumber company. The consignor states that only twelve Miller Logging Company stock certificates signed by Boeing are known, and this example—his own personal certificate, signed twice—is an extraordinary specimen. No Boeing Airplane Company stock certificates signed by the company's founder are known to exist.
