Western Chalukyas or Feudatories (c. 1000 —1100 AD), Gold Gadyana, 2.15g, obv. Shaivite temple with architectural features like pillars, Vimana and Shikhara clearly visible, two banners and two temple lamps flanking it, rev. floral scroll emanating out from a Sankha shell with Hale-kannada inscription in the middle which begins with ”Punya”. Unpublished in Mitchiner and Ganesh. Extremely Fine, Extremely Rare. In 9th to 12th century, Shaivism dominated the political landscape in Peninsular India. This is reflected in the choice of the depiction of a Shaivite temple on this coin. The Sankha is always associated with munifiscence and plenitude. The legend most likely refers to the merit accrued by the issuer who might have been associated with building the temple.
