This is a late WWII M1 carbine as produced by the I.B.M. corporation in mid to late 1944. The rear of the receiver has the standard "I.B.M. CORP" markings above the serial number and the barrel is marked I.B.M. CORP with a small "P" proof part way down the top of the barrel. The carbine was later converted to a sniper type configuration by removing the original rear sight and adding an M3 carbine mounting bar along with a M84 sniper scope. The mounting bar has the correct cast in part number and the scope is marked on the nomenclature plate, "TELESCOPE/M84/SERIAL NUMBER 41400". It has the standard late war parts like the type two barrel/bayonet, flat bolt, with a mix of various manufacturers parts. It has the flip safety and the M2 magazine release is marked with a letter "M". It is fitted with the standard low wood M2 stock that has a small RIA on the left side with a boxed "RIA/EB" cartouche on the right side with the small "IO" markings inside the sling slot, indicating it was rebuilt at Rock Island Arsenal. The carbine is complete with one blued GI 15 round magazine, a current reproduction clamp on muzzle break, a web sling and canvas stock pouch.
