WWI Winchester Model 1897 Trench Shotgun with Bayonet
This is an example of a Winchester Model 1897 WWI solid frame trench shotgun as manufactured in 1918. The left side of the barrel is correctly marked with the two-line Winchester barrel markings followed by "12 GA and CYL". The top of the barrel and receiver are marked with the circled "WP" Winchester proof. The handguard/bayonet adapter has six hole rows, is marked with the one line patent dates and has a bead front sight. The side of the slide bar is marked "MODEL 1897/ ---WINCHESTER---/ TRADE MARK REG. IN U.S.PAT. OFFICE". The shotgun correctly lacks "U.S." and Ordnance property marks. (Experts estimate approximately 20% of all WWI Winchester trench shotgun were hand-stamped with the "US"/ordnance bomb" insignia on the right side of the receiver.) Pistol grip stock with buttstock sling swivel, 18 groove forearm, and a checkered factory buttplate. Complete with a Remington bayonet with sheath. The bayonet is dated 1918 and marked with an "eagle/13" proof, and "ordnance bomb/US", with "A" and HS" carved on the handle.

The forearm is excellent with some scattered minor handling marks. The bayonet has been sharpened with some light chipping on the blade. Sheath has some minor flaking and handling marks.
