There are no visible markings on this pepperbox but writer believes it to be of Japanese origin. The frame is iron with a floral engraved silver top strap, scalloped walnut insert in the center and walnut grip and frame panels that extent to the floral engraved nipple shield. The six barrel cluster are fluted and have to be manually rotated. There is a tension latch mounted on the bottom of the nipple shield. Made without sights, although the latch notches on the breechplate could be used as a sight, checkered trigger and iron floral engraved trigger guard with a tang extension.
BBL: 4 inch six barrel
Stock:
Gauge: 32 percussion
Finish: brown
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: NSN
Condition: Very good. The metal surfaces have a dark patina with scattered minor oxidation. The grips/panels are crudely secured bolts and square headed nuts, otherwise they are very good with a couple minor gouges, finish wear and scattered minor dings and dents. The action does not function and the barrel group rotates properly. The engraving is clear. An interesting early percussion pepperbox.
