This is a U.S. Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor rifle chambered in the .45-70 and manufactured in 1881. The rifle features a solid walnut hardwood stock and is nicknamed the "Trapdoor" for the way in which the receiver is opened to load and eject a cartridge. The side plate is marked "U.S. Springfield 1873 with the eagle holding a shield and arrows. The top of the receiver is marked "U.S. Model 1873". The back of the receiver is marked with five point star and the serial number "152994". The steel butt plate is marked "U.S". This rifle comes with the original cleaning rod as well. The Springfield Trapdoor rifle is in good condition. It measures 52" long with a 32.5" barrel. NO FFL required for transfer.
