This Model 1816 Springfield Musket has a bolster conversion preformed by Hewes & Phillips of Newark, New Jersey and features a distinctive percussion breech with integral bolster without a clean-out screw. The lock is marked "SPRING / FIELD / 1839" behind the hammer and the eagle shield motif over "US" in front of the hammer, (partially visible). The top left rear of the barrel is marked with a recessed "P" and the left flat with the letter "B". Blade and three leaf sights. Inspector initials on the trigger guard plate, with "FS" and oval "AH" directly behind the lower tang on the bottom of the stock and two oval cartouches on the left stock flat. Complete with an original trumpet head iron ramrod.

Condition: Fine. The metal surfaces have been period polished and remain bright. The stock is also fine with exception of 5 notches on wrist, some overall scattered minor dents and scratches, with sharp edges on the flats. Cartouches are crisp. Unless noted above, the markings are readable. The action is excellent.
