U.S. Model 1840 Flintlock Musket, .69 cal., 42'' three-banded barrel, finished in the white, with full-length walnut stock. Also known by collectors as the Model 1835. Total production of 30,421 of which 26,841 were altered to percussion. Lockplate marked ''Eagle/US/Spring-Field/1841''. The 1840 was the last standard production U.S. musket. Externally this musket shows no evidence of re-conversion to flintlock, although buyers should examine flintlock specimens carefully. Condition is about fine with even toning and light carbon staining to barrel. Stock shows oil darkening at metal surfaces. Action remains crisp, frizzen spring and screw appear to be later replacements. Est.: $2,500-$3,500. (Antique)
