U.S. Model 1836 Percussion Conversion Pistol by Robert Johnson
This Model 1836 pistol was manufactured by Robert Johnson of Middletown, Connecticut between 1836 and 1844 and was subsequently converted to percussion. Percussion converted Model 1836 pistols were extensively used in the Civil War. The pistol has a brass front sight blade, dished rear sight, swivel ramrod with button head and iron mountings. The lock is marked "U.S. / R.JOHNSON / MIDDN CONN / 1844" below the remnants of the brass pan. Inspection and proofmarks "US / JH / P" are stamped on the left rear of the barrel. The left side of the stock has two clear cartouches.

Good as incomplete. Overall the pistol has a balance between a smooth gray patina and a smooth dark brown patina. The stock is very fine with the exception of a minor crack near the side plate and some scattered minor dings. The cartouches are clear and crisp. The hammer screw is missing and the hammer is included with lot.
