U.S. Marked Colt 3rd Model Dragoon, #12929, .44 ball, 7-1/2'' barrel, blue finish, case-hardened frame, hammer and lever; brass backstrap and triggerguard, one-piece cartouched walnut grip. Barrel marked ''Address Sam'l Colt New.York City''; left side of three-screw frame marked ''Colt's Patent/US'', with most visible matching parts, except lever marked 3113. Left side grip cartouched ''JB'' in oval; right side cartouched ''WAT'' military inspector's mark. Cylinder with ranger and Indian fight scene, along with ''Model USMR/12929/Colt's Patent'', and 929 is clearly stamped on bottom of cylinder arbor. Mfg'd 1851-1861, with a total production of just over 10,000. Condition is very good to fine for this type early military Colt revolver, retaining approx. 20% thinning and toning blue with original blue surrounding protected areas, such as wedge and wedge screw. Frame has turned mostly a light pleasing gray with a very slight hint of what was originally a thin case ha!
rdened finish. Original unplated backstrap and triggerguard show light knackering to butt, as does lightly worn cartouched one-piece walnut grips. Screw slots show only slight distortion; wedge screw is possibly of later vintage. Action functions well, barrel is at least fine to nearly excellent. Est.: $18,000-$25,000.
