Two U.S. Aston Model 1842 Percussion Pistols with Saddle Holster -A) U.S. Aston Contract Model 1842
A) This is a pair of U.S. contract Model 1842 percussion pistols that were manufactured by Henry Aston of Middletown, Connecticut. The pistols have a 54 caliber, 8 1/2 inch smoothbore barrel with a swivel, button head ramrod. The trigger guard, buttcap and barrel band/side plate are brass. The barrel, ramrod, lock plate, hammer and tang are bright. The trigger was once blue. The lock plate is stamped "U.S./ H.ASTON &CO" in front of the hammer and "MIDDtn / CONN. / 1851" vertically behind the hammer. The top of the barrel is marked "WN / P", with the date 1851 stamped on the upper tang. The left side stock flat is marked with two inspector cartouches. Complete with an unmarked saddle holster.

A) Fair. The barrel has a smooth gray patina with even minor pitting. The action has a smooth dark patina with weak but legible markings. The brass has an even aged patina. The revarnished stock is fair with a minor crack near the lock, and a few absent chips near the buttcap, along with some minor dings and scratches. The stock cartouches are weak, but legible. The holster is good with some minor handling marks and some minor age cracking. The stitching is tight. Mechanically fine.

B) Fair. The barrel has a smooth gray patina and a smooth dark gray patina on the action. There is some minor pitting with some deeper pitting on the barrel. The brass has a mellow patina. The revarnished stock is also fair with the exception of a few hairline cracks on the flats and grip area and an absent chip near the bolster, along with some minor dings and scratches. Faint traces of the cartouches remain. Mechanically fine.
