1) 1864. Territorial. From Baldwin (we believe he is the partner of William Morris Stewart) to Robert Morrow. "Chollar set for tomorrow. You case will come up then.". 2) 1866. Charles Bonner to NH Sowell. "Will be up this evening and go directly to Baldwin's." Both have to due with mining litigation. With a little investigation, one should be able to deduce which lawsuits they were. As Stewart's partner in early Nevadal litigation, he would have been at the center of the largest law suits on the Comstock. In 1860 William Stewart moved to Virginia City, Nevada where he participated in mining litigation and helped the development of the Comstock Lode. As Nevada was becoming a state in 1864, he helped the state develop its constitution. Stewart’s role as a lawyer and politician in Nevada has always been controversial. He was the territory’s leading lawyer in mining litigation, but his opponents accused him of bribing judges and juries.
