T1 $1,000 1861. The Montgomery issue $1000 was the only type of this denomination issued by the Confederacy. The quantity issued for this denomination was only 607. Soon thereafter, the Confederacy transferred its seat of government to Richmond and most of the Montgomery notes were redeemed. This was due to the fact that these notes were payable just twelve months after the issue date and they accrued interest at 10 cents per day. This example has serial number 65 and it has importantly not been cancelled in any fashion. This note was once mounted with stamp hinges. A few trivial edge splits are noticed with the longest split being approximately a quarter inch long. The penned signatures are clearly legible and also two penned endorsement statements are found on the back. Fine.
From The George P.
