Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back Mark Hamill Hand Casting
In "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back" (1980). Luke (Mark Hamill) battles Darth Vader (David Prowse and the voice of James Earl Jones), who he soon learns is his father. Nearing the end of this amazing duel, Vader cuts Luke’s hand clean off. This is an unusual piece. It was originally obtained from Stewert Freeborn, make up special effects wizard and Yoda creator. After this cast was created of Luke's hand, they realized it should be the right hand (this is a cast of Luke's left hand). So although originally made for the sequence, it was not used. The cast of the hand still holds a piece of the lightsaber. It comes in a museum quality special Plexiglas stand with an engraved plaque that reads: “Original Luke Skywalker severed hand with lightsaber casting”, and includes the “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back” logo. Along with this display is a second specially made display showing Mark Hamill having his hand “casted” for the piece, along with a color screen shot from the actual sequence in the movie. This second display is also custom framed on a special stand in Plexiglas. (Display with hand casting approx 11” high. Hand cast is approx 7x4.5x4”, second photo display is 11x5”)
