Polish composer, conductor, and teacher (1819-1872). He is generally referred to as the father of Polish national opera. Scarce ALS in French, one page, 5.25 x 8.25, November 6, 1862. Letter to an unidentified gentleman. In full: “I should like to kindly ask you for some news regarding the publication of my music. Only recently I was assured by Mr. Catard that the proofs were going to be ready in the month of May and were being sent to me. But I still have not received them. Please excuse my impatience and accept the assurance of my perfect esteem.” After his signature, Moniuszko also adds a postscript which reads, “I shall send you the 200 francs I owe you for the copies of the Litany at the beginning of January. It is then that my accounts with the libraries will be settled.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds, and a bit of light toning and soiling. Moniuszko is writing about his Litanies of Ostra Brama, published in 1862 at his own expense. Scarce in any format.
