The revolver features 8" solid rib barrel, top break action, smooth walnut dark walnut grips, and nickel finish. The Smith & Wesson Model 3 was a single-action, cartridge-firing, top-break revolver produced by Smith & Wesson from circa 1870 to 1915. This revolver comes with a factory letter from Smith & Wesson. The letter states that this revolver with serial number 16531 was sold August 5, 1873 and delivered to M.W. Robingson Co. New York City, NY. The shipment contained 95 units of both nickel and blue'd finishes. The record shows that it shipped with a 8" barrel, nickel finish, and smooth walnut grips. Similar examples of this revolver have sold for over $8600 in lesser condition. The top of the barrel rib is marked with the one line address and five patent dates (1860 - 1869). The revolver shows two threaded holes on the rear of the grip frame, these are believed to be for a shoulder stock that was attached after it left the factory. This revolver shows good condition, shows good finish with some wear. The mechanics of the revolver are solid with tight and smooth functions. The bore shows some darkness and pitting.
