The lot features a set of wonderful fully top beaded moccasins from the Sioux Native American Indians dating to circa 1890-1900’s. The moccasins feature an Indian tanned Great American Bison Buffalo hide construction with period correct early glass trade seed beadwork and commercial tanned harness saddle trade leather soles all being sinew sewn, a true attribute of its early age. The harness cowboy leather soles show excellent authentic wear and patina and are a rare find on early authentic moccasins as most sets show a parfleche base. The set has an intricate and exquisite traditional geometric motif beaded pattern in early glass trade seed beads in such colors as pony trader sky blue, chalk white, medium green, red, corn yellow translucent dark blue, translucent light blue, and translucent red. The moccasins show a very fine condition with little to no bead loss and museum presentation artisanship. These are stuffed with early newspapers from circa 1968, most likely the date at which they were collected by the previous owner. The Sioux Indian people, also referred to as the Great Sioux Nation Ochéthi Šakówi?, are a nation of many dialects including Dakota, Lakota, and Nakota. The Sioux are one of the most notable of the 19th Century tribe in North American Indian history with such notable person such as Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, Red Cloud, Black Elk and Spotted Tail. The moccasins measure 4" x 11.25". These are truly a fine set of authentic early turn of the Century fully top beaded moccasins showing very good condition.
