This is an exceptional original authentic Sioux Native American Indian pre-reservation fully beaded horse headstall, reins, and bit from circa 1850-1880. The exquisite headstall and reins shows excellent early glass trade seed beadwork in chalk white, rose white hearts, black, and Cheyenne pink. The headstall shows an early harness leather and trade calico cloth construction with sinew and trade thread sewn work. The browband shows a pictorial US patriotic opposite flying flags along the center with hearted arrows and initialed, “P.B.”. Coming of the browband is the noseband accents that would lay over the eyes. The headstall also shows the wonderfully fully beaded reins and iron worked bit. This is one of the finest headstall examples made available for public purchase. Provenance: From a very large extensive Native American Indian & Old West antique collection in Billings, Montana. This piece has been looked over by a Indian artifact professional and found to be authentic and correct. Condition: The piece shows fine condition for its early age with little loss to the beadwork and some fabric loss, but overall an excellent piece. Comes with a custom-made Museum display as shown. On display the piece measures 28”H x 9”W x 10.5”D. Browband is 15”L. Bit is 10.5”W with rings. Headstall is 20”H without reins. Reins are approximately 6ft. 7.5in. cheek to cheek. Truly a fine historic and important example of a 19th century Sioux headstall, museum quality.
