Simeon North Contract Model 1819 Percussion A.W. Marked Conversion Pistol
Manufactured by Simeon North from 1819 to 1823 with a total production of 20,400. This pistol is one of many that were converted to percussion after manufacture using a bolster style variation. The pistol is iron mounted with an oil-finished, black walnut stock. The barrel has an iron swivel ramrod with button head, brass front sight and oval rear sight on the tang. The edges of the lock plate are beveled forward and rounded behind the hammer. The lock plate is dated 1821 and marked in front of the hammer with an eagle with a "U" and "S" on either side, "S.NORTH" in a downward arc above the eagle and "MIDLTN CONN." in an upward arc below. The top of the barrel is stamped: "JD / P / US" on the left side at the breech and the bolster is stamped "MW". The sliding hammer safety has been removed and the slot filled with a piece of metal. There is a small "LT" sub inspectors mark on the lower left side in the grip area, "TE" on the flat ahead of the side plate and an oval "JN" cartouche behind the side plate.
