Carbine retains its original early 1st model features including long wrist short comb black walnut stock with no provision for cleaning rod compartment, faint ESA cartouche, circle P proof behind trigger guard,smooth steel U.S. stamped buttplate, single barrel band with stacking swivel, non beveled flush lock plate with standard US Springfield 1873 markings and 3 click tumbler. The serial number of this example falls between the following known LittleBig Horn carbines listed in the Springfield archives including 37225 with Co. H at the battle 39240 forensically tested now at Nebraska State Historic Society 39253 on diplay at Smithsonian and 41290 turned in after battle. Carbine remainsgood to very good, metal surfaces with natural uncleaned brown patina, fain traces of case color visible on breech block, walnut stock shows old light cleaning, NO repairs or restoration, mechanically excellent with fair bore.
