This is an extremely rare and desirable WWII V42 Stiletto produced by the CASE Cutlery Company in 1943. These Stilettos were patterned after the Fairbairn-Sikes Commando knives and were issued to The First Special Services, commonly called "The Devils Brigade". This unit was a composite unit made up of both Canadian and US Army forces trained in Command Warfare. They were the true forerunners of the current Special Forces or Green Berets. There were approximately 3,600 of these knives produced and they are 12 1/2 inches overall with a slender 7 5/16 inch double sided stabbing blade, thumb print/CASE marked on the ricasso below the cross guard with the serrated one piece leather handle with a steel pointed "Skull Crusher" end cap. The Stiletto is complete with the distinctive long russet leather scabbard with extended hanger, that is designed to be worn on the belt, slung down the side and tied to the leg. The scabbard is both sewn around the edges and has fourteen steel rivets evenly spaced around the edges with a 1 3/4 inch by 2 inch steel reinforcing plate towards the bottom of the scabbard, that has been stamped "SIMON" in small letters. The front of the scabbard was originally stamped with either a last name or unit which has been completely over stamped so that it can't be read and directly below that it is stamped "E-12" which may also be a unit.

Condition: Near excellent overall, the blade retains 99% of the original blue finish with the edges having been sharpened. The handle and end cap are both also in excellent condition with some slight rust around the edges of the end cap. The scabbard is in very good plus condition with a nice medium brown color overall with nice tight stitching. A very nice example of a scarce WWII 1st Special Forces V42 knife and scabbard.
