Blade and notch sights, with "NWP" on the left side of the barrel, and "U.S/S. NORTH/MIDLtn/CONN/1840" on top of the chamber, which is equipped with the distinctive Type II "fishtail" operating lever. Smooth stock, with an oval cartouche on the left side next to the saddle ring bar, and a "WAT" cartouche on the comb just before the flat buttplate heel. The Model 1840 Hall North Carbine was issued to the 1st and 2nd Dragoon regiments and saw service in the Seminole War and in the Mexican War. Examples of this important Dragoon carbine are difficult to find.

Condition: Very good plus, with a crisp even brown patina finish overall, showing some mild pitting and handling marks overall, along with wear on the high edges. The stock is very good, with numerous dents and chipping on the upper comb. The cartouche is fine. Mechanically excellent. Looks like it just came out of an attic! Additional Information: Included in this lot is a leather shot bag with brass spout and replaced lever spring. Very good overall with a few minor scuffs and tight stitching.
