Scarce First Model Harrington & Richardson Handy Gun Shotgun Pistol Fully Transferable
This is an excellent example of an original, H&R "Handy Gun" produced in the 1920s and 1930s by the H&R gun company. These were basically their single barrel shotgun converted into a single shot "Shotgun Pistol" and sold on the commercial market. Many were used by farmers and home owners, rural mail carries and hunters looking for a small compact shotgun they could keep on the front seat of their car to shoot an occasional pheasant or rabbit in the ditch while driving home after work. When the 1934 Omnibus crime bill was introduced these were considered a destructive device which then required full registration as a class III weapon. These pistols have a blued barrel with the H&R factory color case hardened finish on the frame with a walnut forend and pistol grip. The left side of the receiver is marked "H&R Handy Gun" and the right side is marked with the one-line "HARRINGTON AND RICHARDSON ARMS CO./WORCHESTER MASS, U.S.A." legend. The top rear section of the receiver is serial numbered 14634 with a matching serial number on the left side of the barrel lug. It has a short uncheckered forend with a walnut pistol grip with a "spur" or up-turned portion of the grip on the very rear of the shotgun that fits into web of the hand to aid controlling the recoil when firing.

Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 14634

Excellent overall with 95% of the original blue on the barrel with wear and blue loss on the muzzle and front sides of the area with some minor spotting of the blue a little farther down the barrel and on the side, probably from holding onto it when firing. The receiver also retains 95% of the factory case hardened colors with some wear and thinning of the finish on the very front portion of the receiver from use and handling. The forend and pistol grip are also both in very good to excellent condition with a nice matching light brown tone to the wood with minor handling marks from use and handling. Overall a very nice example of a scarce H&R Handy Gun that comes with the proper ATF transfer tax stamp.
