Manufactured in 1860, this particular Colt Model 1849 revolver has a three inch octagon barrel with no provisions for a loading lever. The revolver is in the correct 164,000 serial range for the "Wells Fargo" Model 1849 revolver without loading lever. The top barrel has the two New York address inside brackets and the frame is marked "COLTS / PATENT" on the left side. The 5-shot cylinder is roll-engraved with the stagecoach holdup scene. Matching numbers on the cylinder, barrel, frame, trigger guard, backstrap and wedge. The number 8 is stamped on the frame along with the serial number. One piece varnished grip. Wells Fargo models are a desirable and highly sought after variation of the Colt Model 1849 pocket series.
BBL: 3 inch octagon
Gauge: 31 percussion
Grips: varnished walnut
Serial Number: 164040
Condition: Very good plus. The revolver has a crisp, original smooth gray patina with some scattered minor pitting. Half of the original cylinder scene remain. The brass retains 30% of original silver plating on the trigger guard. The grip is fine with some minor dings and scratches, with most of the varnish remaining. Mechanically functions, but is slightly out of time.
