This is a scarce Luger variation that was produced by the Vickers Ltd. Company in England for the Netherlands. These were produced in the 1915-17 timeframe when hostilities broke out between the Germans and Dutch. There were approximately 10,000 made however they are very rare today as they saw considerable use in the Far East and most you see are in terrible condition. Almost all were arsenal refurbished during the 1925-1933 time frame, and that does not detract from the value of these rare pistols. The pistol has a blank chamber area with the front toggle link stamped "VICKERS/LTD" in two lines. The left side of the barrel extension is stamped with the "Crown/W" Dutch Wilhelmina proof and both sides of the extractor are marked: "GELADEN" with the safety area marked "RUST". The top of the barrel is marked with the date "1931" just forward of the chamber indicating the year the pistol was refurbished by the Dutch and the underside of the barrel is stamped with "Crown/V", "Crown/GP" and small "NP" British Nitro proofs, along with the pistol serial number, with the same British "Crown/V" proof on top of the breech block and front toggle. A brass plate was correctly soldered to the left side of the frame that has been stamped "T. VII ST. 5". Since this is a 1906 style pistol there is no stock lug and there is a grip safety. It is fitted with the correct coarse checkered walnut grips that is marked with only a single letter "V" on the back side of the right one. It is complete with one nickel plated magazine with the wooden base.
BBL: 3 7/8 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 5001
Condition: Fine as partially refurbished, with 90% of the arsenal style refinished blue on the frame, with wear and blue loss on the edges and high spots with thinning on the grip straps and refinished side plate hump. The grips are in good condition as refurbished with minimal handling marks. The pistol has matching numbers on all the parts except the grips and magazine as noted above, the firing pin which is unnumbered and the grip safety, which may have been replaced during arsenal refurbishment. Mechanically really functions fine, but needs a better magazine to trigger the hold-open device. Avery scarce and desirable Luger pistol variation.
