This is a genuine handmade Japanese Samurai Sword from the 16th-17th century (believed to be late 1500 to early 1600's). This features a beautifully wrapped handle and Hilt or TSABU that features ray skin, hand worked brass and other metals, and wrapped in worked Chrysanthemum blossom, which would be the Emperor of Japans symbol. The handle has been removed and is marked which is pronounced "Kanesada saku" which means "Made by Kanesada". Izuminokami Kanesada was a Japanese sword smith who lived during the 1500’s the Muramachi period in Gifu Prefecture. The Muramachi is thought of as the Golden Age of Samurai Swords. The sword was hand made by a master during the most prominent time. The blade is in great condition and the scabbard is also with hand worked brass pieces across the piece. The blade appears to have small areas where someone attempted to sharpen, but overall a great piece. The sword measures 38" long with a 27 5/8" long blade that is 1 1/8" wide. The overall length with the scabbard is 40.25"
