SN 424. Cal. 54. Scarce U.S. Martial Pistol with 10-1/16" rnd bbl, that has integral iron rail on the bottom with sgl iron guide containing a brass tipped hickory ramrod. Lockplate has standard markings with the date "1807". Bbl is marked with the standard "U.S." and eagle "P" proofs along with the SN "424". Mounted in a 1-pc walnut half stock with brass furniture and a sgl key in forestock. Left side flat of the stock has the clover leaf cartouche "V / CW". According to Flayderman's Guide to Antique American Firearms there were only 4,096 of these rare pistols produced in the period 1806-1808 and were issued in matching numbered pairs. The Model 1805 was the first military handgun manufactured by a national armory. These rare pistols are almost never found with complete or orig configuration or with any orig finish. CONDITION: About fine. Bbl, lockplate & hammer retain a smooth, dark, silver brown patina with a few small spots of rust on the bbl; frizzen is orig and fits perfectly. Stock has a small crack by the rear lockplate screw on the left side, otherwise wood is sound with a few light nicks & scratches and retains 25-30% orig finish with some additional finish wiped over the entire stock; cartouche is completely legible.
