Archive of original photos and patents relating to the work of French aircraft designer and spaceflight theorist Robert Esnault-Pelterie, which includes:

Six vintage photos, ranging in size from 3.5 x 2.5 to 6.25 x 4.5, showing a variety of Esnault-Pelterie Wright-type gliders, with four photos showing Esnault-Pelterie testing his gliders on the beach and sand hills of Wissant, one at Chalais Meudon in February 1904, and another at Issy-les-Moulineaux in 1905.

Eleven vintage photographs of Esnault-Pelterie’s aircraft factory on Rue des Abondances in Boulogne-Billancourt, with images showing workers, aircraft frames and fuselages, and varying stages of aircraft completion.

Nine vintage photographs, ranging in size from 4.5 x 6.25 to 7 x 5, each featuring images of Esnault-Pelterie aircraft flying at Buc, France in 1910.

Two vintage photos, 6.5 x 4.5 and 9 x 6.5, showing Esnault-Pelterie’s extravagant showcase booths at the 1910 and 1911 Paris Air Shows.

A four-page French ‘Marine and Navigation’ patent for Esnault-Pelterie, issued by the National Office of Industrial Property as No. 372.753, dated December 19, 1906, which relates (translated) “to an airplane with two pairs of wings orientable about horizontal axes so as to give the inclination of one pair with respect to the other pair, in order to maintain the system's longitudinal equilibrium and also to allow the uphill or downhill.” With attached diagram sheet featuring seven diagrams and pencil notations to lower portion.

A five-page French patent for Esnault-Pelterie, issued as No. 373.763, dated January 19, 1907, which cover titled (translated): “Aircraft has deformable wings of equilibrium and has steering rudders and ascent.” With attached fold-out sheets featuring six diagrams. Included with the patent is a supplementary packet with three handwritten pages and additional diagram sheets.

A two-page French ‘Marine and Navigation’ patent for Esnault-Pelterie, issued by the National Office of Industrial Property as No. 10.059, dated November 11, 1908, which relates (translated) “to an improvement to the aeroplane which was the subject of the patent No. 372,753…improvement of a steering system of the vertical steering rudder, which allows, after having properly oriented relative to the vertical longitudinal plane of the apparatus, to stop it in position, to produce the rotation of the apparatus.” With attached diagram sheet featuring a single figure.

A one-page French ‘Marine and Navigation’ patent for Esnault-Pelterie, issued by the National Office of Industrial Property as No. 11.077, dated June 1, 1909, which relates (translated) “relates to a modification to the airfoil with adjustable leverage surfaces which was the subject of the French patent of July 16, 1908, as well as the additions of October 27, 1908, April 20 and May 6, 1909.” With attached diagram sheet featuring two figures.

Uncommon softcover booklet in French entitled ‘Life and Scientific Works of Robert Esnault-Pelterie,” published by Henri Tessier in 1931. In overall very good to fine condition.
