Remington model 1875 single-action frontier revolver, 7-1/2” barrel, .44-40 caliber, nickel plated, wood grips, serial #719. Left side of ejector rod housing is period stamped “P R 35” which is the identification forrevolvers shipped to Pine Ridge Indian Reservation for use by Indian Police. The Remington shows 30-50% original nickel drifting to a grey brown patina with some radical wear at the muzzle from being carried a very long way in a holster. (As much wear on a muzzle as you ever see). The bottom of the barrel shows frustration nicks from removing cylinder pin, which is also marred. The action is good, bore is good, grips aregood with some even wear and small losses. A large folder of documentation and research accompany this revolver including a letter to Leon “Red” Jackson from Charles Hansen of The Museum of the Fur Trade stationarydescribing this pistol and documenting its history as being owned by a trader on the reservation who sold it to Jack Strain of Parmalee, South Dakota. He further states the revolver was known for at least 50 years
