Rashtrakutas / Chalukyas of Kalyani or their feudatories (c. 900 - 1000 AD), Gold Gadyana, 4.35g, obv. dynastic emblem of boar in centre surrounded by various attributes of kingship —sun and moon above, broad-bladed sword to left, a hill-like symbol to right and a Swastika below. There are four small punches with ’sun’-symbol applied at four cardinal points, perhaps as validation marks, rev. Hale-Kannada legend in three lines Shri Kaliyuga Nawanu(ndu?)ga The exact meaning of this title is not clear but evidently it describes the issuer with a positive quality in the ’Age of Kali’. Very Fine, Extremely Rare. The reverse legend is most likely to be a title of the issuer of the coin. As it is not yet satisfactorily read, the precise attribution of the coin remains a mystery; however, with more research we can get to the answer.
